As a Chicagoan it was beyond amazing for the Cubs to finally win the World Series. A lot of people were doubting when they were down 3-1. The only thing I could think of to say at that time was if we’re going to do this in the true history of being Chicago people we have to do it the absolute hardest way possible. I’m glad the Cubs didn’t fail to back up my words.
We’ll take the snub from SI as Sportsmen of the year in stride, I still can’t fathom how it went to Lebron and not the Cubs, but that’s a different story. The Cubs drought had to be the one of the longest if not the longest in modern recorded sports history.
Even though 108 years of drought spans more generations than I care to count, I think it’s good to put the victory in perspective. Chicago hasn’t had it that bad over the last 30-31 years. A Bears Superbowl, which lives in infamy. 6 Bulls titles, 3 Blackhawks victories, 1 White Sox win and if I’m forgetting anything else please forgive me. That’s 12 titles in 31 years, that comes out to a major sporting title the city of Chicago has celebrated every 2.6 years for the last 31 years. No other city even comes close. Not bad for the 2nd City huh?
